The role

The City of Mount Pearl is seeking experienced professional engineers to join the existing engineering team.  These professionals should bring a depth of knowledge and experience in the civil engineering field, as well as buildings and complex facilities design and construction.  The City has an exciting and challenging set of projects to deliver in a timely and responsive manner, supporting the asset management plan as well as new infrastructure.

The Senior Engineer is responsible for the planning and design, project coordination and oversight of large, complex and multi-disciplinary construction or redevelopment projects. This may include supervision of various technical and non-technical staff, review of the designs and plans of other offices and contractors, and the preparation and review of contractual documents. May exercise creative and innovative approaches requiring multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge and skill.  The Senior Engineer provides technical expertise for various processes, procedures, plans and designs.

 

The ideal candidate

 

The ideal candidate will possess, at minimum, an undergraduate degree specializing in an Engineering field, preferably civil, a Professional Engineering Designation (i.e., P. Eng.) in Newfoundland and Labrador and 6 to 7 years of work experience in an applicable municipal engineering field. They will have a thorough understanding of a number of different engineering disciplines, current trends and developments in a number of specialized fields, experience with design-bid-build and design-build approaches to procurement, contract procedures and policies, project management, technical analysis and assessment and the ability to apply established techniques and engineering concepts.

This is a multi-year contract, hours of work are Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
