***NEW*** Electrical products manufacturer ROBROY Industries has announced an issue with their PRGUA Series Outlet Boxes (With Covers), Models PRGUAT47SA and PRGUAB47SA, issued between 2019-2025. These products were incorrectly marked as being approved and suitable for use in Class I, Div 1 & 2, Groups B, C, D when in fact the product is approved and suitable for use in Class I, Div 1 & 2 Groups C, D only. If you know of the use of these products in Class I, Div 1 or 2 Group B environments, they must be replaced. Unused products can be returned to the manufacturer for replacement.


***NEW*** REMINDER Join us as Randy Herrmann, P. Eng., FEC, facilitates a session on, "Decolonizing Engineering " Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 12:00-2:00 PM NST. This session is being held virtually through Zoom (Zoom meeting details have been sent to all members).

Randy is an engineer and the Director of the Engineering Access Program (ENGAP) in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Manitoba. ENGAP is a successful program in Canada, graduating hundreds of Indigenous students into the world of engineering.

This session will discuss the historic and contemporary role engineering has played in Indigenous communities and how we as engineers can move forward in a spirit of reconciliation. The session will talk about what exactly is meant by decolonization and why we need to address this issue. In order to better understand this role, we will look at some contemporary engineering issues in Indigenous communities and review some traditional Indigenous design. The session will also talk about United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and how that might affect engineering projects in the future.


***NEW*** The Energy NL-Hibernia Scholarship Fund was established to commemorate 1997, a landmark year when the Hibernia project was successfully completed, hauled out to sea, and started drawing oil. Presented annually, and designed to foster the bright minds that will shape the future of our industry, the award provides $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador who is entering post-secondary studies with the intention of pursuing an energy-related career. Applications are reviewed by Energy NL’s selection committee and the award is presented to the applicant who best meets the academic and extra-curricular criteria. To apply for this scholarship, the application form is available here. Application deadline: Tuesday October 14, 2025.


The Geological Survey Division (Department of Industry, Energy and Technology, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador) is pleased to notify of the release of the research article "Paleoproterozoic volcanism and rift basin evolution during Nuna assembly: Evidence from the Ingrid group, Labrador, Canada" by A.M. Hinchey, N. Rayner, H. Sandeman, J.P. Butler, D. Diekrup and D. Mendoza Marin. The article is available here.

Philip Helwig, P. Eng. (Retired) has published an article titled “The Curious Upside-Down Dam below Muskrat Falls” through CRIPE, a committee of the Canadian Geophysical Union - Hydrology Section. PEGNL has been advised that a company calling themselves Glassy Engineering is claiming to be operating out of the Confederation Building Daycare Center in St. John’s and using the website https://glassyengineering.ca. This company is not registered with PEGNL and could potentially be attempting to use job applications as a means of accessing personal information from members. It is recommended that members use caution and make proper enquires before exchanging information with this or any other company.

***NEW*** On September 8th, learn about the Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund (AICLF). This ISANS-led initiative can help immigrants with permanent resident status or Canadian citizenship obtain training and certification in their chosen fields or related fields in their new home provinces. ***NEW*** Save the date for the CNAM 2026 National Conference set to take place May 4 – 7​, 2026, in St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador. The conference is expected to attract more than 250 municipal, provincial, and federal leaders, as well as interested parties from utilities, consultants, researchers, educators, and others to share insights about all aspects of asset management. PVC Pipe Association (PVCPA) is hosting an educational webinar titled Installation of PVC Water and Sewer Piping Systems, September 24, 2025, 10:30am to 11:30am CST. Climate Risk Institute offers training and professional development courses that will be of interest for engineers involved in the planning, design, procurement, operation and management of natural and built infrastructure.

The Society of Women Engineers Annual Conference is taking place October 23 to 25, where global engineers and technologists come together to connect, innovate, and grow. Participants can attend interactive workshops on leadership and engineering subjects, cultivating relationships and empowering women.
