***NEW*** Call for Nominations - 2026 PEGNL Board of Directors
The PEGNL Board is responsible for building and shaping policy in relation to the regulation of the professions of engineering and geoscience. This year, we are seeking nominations for three positions on the Board, Chair-Elect (one) and Director (two). These three positions will serve three-year terms.
 Nominations are open until February 26.


***NEW*** WISE NL is accepting applications for Supervisors for the Student Summer Employment Program (SSEP). SSEP gives female grade 11 students the opportunity to gain work experience in science and engineering at no financial cost! Learn more here about Supervising a SSEP student. Supervisor applications are open until Monday, February 16, 2026.


***NEW*** National Professional Practice & Ethics Exam (NPPE) registration deadline is February 13, 2026. Obtain further information here.


***NEW*** Camp 20 will hold the 2026 Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer on March 28, 2026. The event will be held at the Holy Heart Theatre, St. John’s. Obligated engineers are invited to attend. Space is limited, so those who wish to attend should pre-register here.

Candidates who are Members of Memorial University's 2026 Undergraduate Engineering graduating class should be registered automatically. All other candidates who wish to participate in the ceremony must register here.


National Building Code and National Fire Code Adoption. The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure has advised that the 2025 editions of the National Building Code of Canada and National Fire Code of Canada, pursuant to the NL Fire Protection Services Regulation s.3. (1) (1.1), will come into force 6 (six) months after their date of publication, which was December 22, 2025. Therefore, these 2025 editions will come into force on July 12, 2026. Design plan submissions after July 12, 2026, must meet the 2025 edition of the adopted Codes.


MUN Engineering Students looking for work term placements. The Memorial University Engineering Co-operative Education Office wishes to advise that job competition for the Winter 2026 work term remains open. A Winter 2026 engineering co-op student (January – May ) brings energy, curiosity, and hands-on help right when workload increases. The PIEVC Programs Webinar Series was created to provide a platform for professionals from diverse fields to share their experiences and insights on applying the PIEVC Protocol to their projects. The PIEVC team is looking for speakers for the March Webinar. If you and/or your team have used the PIEVC Protocol for your projects (finished or ongoing), your knowledge, experiences, and lessons are valuable to the community and the rest of the PIEVC Network would love to hear what you have to share!

If you are interested in presenting, submit an abstract for consideration (maximum length 250 words) via a Word or PDF document with the subject line “PIEVC Webinar Abstract” to pievc@iclr.org. The PIEVC Program will review all submissions and contact selected presenters directly. Submission deadline for the March webinar is February 27.

***NEW*** A webinar titled "Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) for Engineers and Geoscientists" is available on the PEGNL Learning Portal under Ethical Practice Learning Category. Produced by Engineers Canada, with guidance from the EDI Training Task Force, made up of representatives from the 30 by 30 Champions network and in partnership with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia, and Geoscientists Canada. This course is a foundational training on EDI to help individuals develop competencies in inclusive behaviours and emotional intelligence. EDI in engineering and geoscience means fostering professional environments and relationships that welcome and advocate for diversity among professionals and enable all professionals to contribute to their full potential without barriers or discriminations.


***NEW*** North Atlantic is inviting the community to an information session on their Wind to Hydrogen Project. The information session will take place February 7, 2026, 1 to 4pm, at the Sunnyside Community Centre. All are welcome to talk to their team.

This spring, the Canadian Construction Documents Committee (CCDC) will publish brand new progressive design-build contracts and updates to the traditional design-build contracts. Ahead of this publication, CCDC document authors will be delivering an in-person seminar to help introduce and explain these documents. The seminar will take place Wednesday, April 22 (8 am - 12 pm). The Canadian Society of Civil Engineers is offering a new and unique training opportunity to learn about two globally recognized infrastructure tools, the Public Infrastructure Engineering Vulnerability Committee (PIEVC) Protocol for climate risk assessment, and the Envision® Sustainable Infrastructure Framework, an opportunity to set yourself on a path to earning recognized and in-demand credentials. Climate Risk Institute offers training and professional development courses that will be of interest for engineers involved in the planning, procurement, design, operation, maintenance, management or regulation of infrastructure and who need to consider climate risk, resilience and the changing climate in carrying out these activities.

Geoscientists Canada has renewed and expanded its collaboration with Geologize for another two years (2026–2028), continuing to provide free access for all licensed and registered members, to Geologize’s critically acclaimed online training. This includes continued access to Practical Geocommunication, which has already helped over 4,000 P.Geo.s across Canada enhance how they communicate the value and importance of their work to the public, industry, and policymakers. It also includes the brand-new Mining Communication course, having a mining focus but designed to help geoscientists in all disciplines develop stronger, clearer, and more impactful messages about our profession’s role in our modern society.
