PEGNL is looking for experienced professionals to help us review the experience of those applying for licensure by serving as Volunteer Assessors in the Competency Based Assessment (CBA) framework. While all areas of expertise are welcome, we are looking for additional assessors with experience in the following areas: mining engineering, process engineering, computer engineering, geology, and geophysics.
If you have been licensed for at least 5 years and are interested in learning more about becoming an assessor, please contact Heather Appleby, P. Eng., FEC at happleby@pegnl.ca.

Engineers Canada accepting award nominations:
Each year, Engineers Canada recognizes engineers and engineering students for their exceptional work in the engineering community through their awards program. The various categories highlight important contributions in engineering, engineering education, community involvement, the advancement of women in engineering and significant accomplishments in engineering. Nominations for the 2023 Engineers Canada Awards program are now open until January 13, 2023.

Camp 20 of the Corporation of the Seven Wardens is searching for five to ten Alternate Wardens to assist in offering the Ritual of the Calling of an Engineer to graduating Memorial University’s engineering students. The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) is inviting Codes users/stakeholders to take part in the first public review of proposed changes to the 2020 editions of the National Model Codes, including the NBC, NFC, NECB and NPC. The public review is running from Oct. 24 to Dec. 23, 2022.

The University of Toronto and Engineers Canada are conducting a survey on Engineering Careers & EDI (Equity, Diversity & Inclusion). It’s part of a study on the career trajectories, mobility patterns, and sense of professional belonging of engineering alumni across Canada who graduated before 2013. Completion of this survey can be claimed as Professional Development.

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is conducting a Canada-wide Building Energy Code Compliance Study to collect information about energy code compliance for buildings. Responses will help inform current level of compliance with energy requirements, barriers and opportunities to improve the code compliance process. NRCan encourages professionals who have experience within the last five years meet-ing or enforcing energy code for Part 3 to take 15 minutes to answer these important questions before Jan. 2nd. Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is offering a 1-hour course on EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion). This course is free to all engineers and geoscientists across Canada on the EGBC Knowledge Centre. Create a new account before completing the checkout process. Then take part in the course.

Climate Risk Institute is offering Applied Climate Science for Infrastructure Professionals Course, which will be of interest to professionals who are involved in the planning, procurement, design, operation, maintenance, management and regulation of infrastructure.         Events & Sessions  

Climate change has had and will continue to have significant impacts on communities across NL. Planning for these impacts is daunting, but necessary. This interactive workshop series aims to bring together municipal and provincial staff and elected officials, engineers, planners, other professionals, academics and interested individuals, to facilitate effective communication and collaboration across disciplines. BRACE sessions will take place during the week of Nov. 28 to Dec. 2 with five 2-hour sessions running 9:30 to 11:30 NST daily.

APEGNB is inviting PEGNL members to the Diversity by Design seminar on Dec. 7, 2022. This event will satisfy the mandatory 2 PDH in PEGNL’s Ethical Practice category. Once you register, you’ll receive an email directing you to complete an assessment using the Diversity Awareness tool. The insights gained from this tool will help shape the conversation during the workshop.

SPE Live Distinguished Lecturer Series: A Survival Guide for Digital Transformation will happen on Dec. 7, at 10:30 am NST. In this SPE Live, Martin Storey, an experienced petroleum engineer offers his take on what Digital Transformation may mean and suggests how to prepare to ride the wave and succeed. Specific topics will include the need for a reliable data inventory, prerequisites for the integration of multiple data sets, and for the rigorous quantification of uncertainty.
