***NEW*** Earth Science Week 2024 begins Sunday. From October 13 to 19, Earth Science Week will celebrate the theme “Earth Science Everywhere”. The year's theme emphasizes the influence geoscience has in our homes, in products, roads and transportation, and across STEM disciplines and the humanities. This theme will hopefully encourage individuals to appreciate how geoscience relates to their interests, communities and future pursuits.

Join us as DiversityNL facilitates a session on, “Creating a Culture of Inclusion in the Workplace” Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 12:00-1:30 PM NST. This is session 3 in a 3-part education series held virtually through Zoom (Zoom meeting details have been sent to all members).

Creating a culture of inclusion in the workplace takes time and intention. Through this session we dive into ways of creating safer spaces through signs, symbols, policies, and actions. Environments built on positivity and praise are explored. How can we build and shift culture and become more aware of our privilege. What is allyship and what can each of us do to move the needle ahead as it is an everyone responsibility.


The Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa, is launching a new certificate program designed for early-career engineers. The program is titled “Legal Foundations for Engineers Certificate”. The goal of the program is to help bridge the gap between technical expertise and legal awareness, strengthening the capacity of engineers to make informed decisions that reduce risk, ensure compliance, and advance innovation.

The Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund (AICLF) ISANS-led initiative can help immigrants with permanent resident status or Canadian citizenship obtain training and certification in their chosen fields or related fields in their new home provinces. The Government of Canada is pleased to launch a call for proposals to develop and pilot a national-scale Coastal Communities Adaptation Toolkit under Natural Resources Canada’s Climate-Resilient Coastal Communities (CRCC) Program. The CRCC Program supports accelerating adaptation actions to enhance the climate resilience of communities and businesses in coastal regions across Canada.

The Toolkit aims to provide coordinated and curated access to coastal adaptation resources and tools that support informed climate-resilient decision making and actions. The deadline to apply is November 15, 2024. For more information, visit the CRCC webpage and contact adaptation@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca to request the proposal guidelines and templates.

The St. John’s engineering and business community welcomes Engineers Without Borders CEO, Brian Harrigan on October 17th 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Theatre Hill Bar + Café, 390 Duckworth Street St. John's, NL A1C 1H8. Brian Harrigan, EWB’s CEO will share the new vision and direction of EWB Canada and provide an update on an ambitious and significant project, Engineering Brighter Tomorrows, in Zambia and Malawi focused on tailored solar energy solutions- and digital equity- for health care and education transformations that will lift entire communities and save lives.
