The Energy NL-Hibernia Scholarship Fund was established to commemorate 1997, a landmark year when the Hibernia project was successfully completed, hauled out to sea, and started drawing oil. Presented annually, and designed to foster the bright minds that will shape the future of our industry, the award provides $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador who is entering post-secondary studies with the intention of pursuing an energy-related career. Applications are reviewed by Energy NL’s selection committee and the award is presented to the applicant who best meets the academic and extra-curricular criteria. ***NEW*** The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is kicking off a New Member Orientation Series, Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 6pm ET. This first session is designed to help new members get a better understanding of NSBE, what your membership offers, and how to make the most of your experience. You’ll hear from national and professional leadership, learn more about NSBE’s history and priorities for the 2026–2027 year, and discover ways to get involved at the regional and professional levels. ***NEW*** Climate Risk Institute offers training and professional development courses that will be of interest for those involved in the planning, design, procurement, operation and management of natural and built infrastructure.
Fall 2026 courses include:
- Climate Adaptation and Resilience Professional Development Program for Forest Professionals in Canada: Oct. 26 - Dec. 11.
- Climate Change Resilience for Building Sector Professionals: Nov. 9 - Dec. 13.
- Climate Smart Policy and Procurement: Nov. 9 - Dec. 13.
- Applied Climate Science for Infrastructure Practitioners: Nov. 16 - Dec. 20.
- PIEVC Protocol Training: Dec. 1 - Dec. 2.
***NEW*** Memorial University’s Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science is running a workshop “Go ENG Girl” October 17, 2026. This workshop is offered at no charge to female identifying and gender diverse youth in grades 7-10. The day will be filled with hands-on activities, a variety of engineering experiences, information sessions and the opportunity to learn what a career in the field of engineering might offer. Guardians are welcome to stay for the first few sessions to learn more about Engineering at Memorial and take part in some of the activities. To register click here.

The 34th Annual Newfoundland Electrical and Computer Engineering Conference (NECEC), will take place on November 12, 2026, at the Holiday Inn St. John’s Conference Centre in St. John’s. The conference brings together researchers, engineers, students, industry professionals, startups, and technical teams to share innovation, applied research, and engineering work across Newfoundland and Labrador. Municipalities Newfoundland & Labrador's 2026 Conference, Trade Show and AGM is scheduled November 5 to 7, in St. John's. Join Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador (MNL) to celebrate 75 years of municipal progress while also gaining knowledge and making the connections essential to effective, meaningful municipal work. Newfoundland and Labrador's Premier Mineral Exploration and Mining Conference and Exhibition is taking place November 3 to 6, 2026 at the Delta Hotel, St. John’s.
