***NEW*** Iron Stories is an upcoming book collecting personal reflections from engineers across Canada to explore what it means to be an engineer in today's evolving world. Using the iron ring as a narrative anchor, the book will blend first-person stories with extensive research to catalyse conversations about engineering identity, purpose, duty, legacy and stewardship. If you are keen to share your story, submit your interest here. Or reach out to Jane Desrochers at hello@innovarastrategicimpact.ca.

REMINDER Join us as Randy Herrmann, P. Eng., FEC, facilitates a session on, "Decolonizing Engineering " Tuesday, September 16, 2025, 12:00-2:00 PM NST. This session is being held virtually through Zoom (Zoom meeting details have been sent to all members).

Randy is an engineer and the Director of the Engineering Access Program (ENGAP) in the Faculty of Engineering, University of Manitoba. ENGAP is a successful program in Canada, graduating hundreds of Indigenous students into the world of engineering.

This session will discuss the historic and contemporary role engineering has played in Indigenous communities and how we as engineers can move forward in a spirit of reconciliation. The session will talk about what exactly is meant by decolonization and why we need to address this issue. In order to better understand this role, we will look at some contemporary engineering issues in Indigenous communities and review some traditional Indigenous design. The session will also talk about United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and how that might affect engineering projects in the future.
