Application Form for Professional Licensure – New Applicant

Notice to Applicants
• Requirements for registration are defined in PEGNL's Registration Policy.
• Submission of the online application form requires payment by credit card. If you are not able to pay by credit card, please contact the PEGNL office.
• Please complete ALL sections.
• Please ensure ALL necessary supporting documents (as noted in the checklist below) are supplied to PEGNL in the required manner.
• Applicants must have at least 4 years of experience and have completed satisfactory educational requirements (an accredited degree program or similar), in order to be eligible for licensure. They must also have fulfilled all additional requirements per PEGNL by-laws as noted in this application. Applicants may be asked to complete exams or provide additional information in order to be deemed suitable. Submission of an application does not guarantee licensure with PEGNL.

COMMUNICATION PREFERENCES

PEGNL is required to send information to members in relation to regulatory matters. As a result, you will receive communications from us on the following: Discipline, enforcement, renewal (dues payment, professional Development requirements, etc.), elections to the Board of Directors, Annual General Meeting information and registration, regulatory amendments (such as changes to the Act, Regulations, Guidelines and Bylaws), declaration of new members and other information as applicable. This information will largely be delivered by individual emails and dispersed in our regulatory publication illuminate.

PEGNL also sends out a regular Member Announcements that includes information on professional development offerings, events, volunteer opportunities, publications, careers and other information that our members may find interesting or useful that aren’t directly related to the regulation of the professions. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT

All professional members with PEGNL are required to demonstrate that they are competent in the English language. Please be aware an MIT may be asked to provide proof of English competency (such as a passing grade in TOEFL, CanTEST, CLB or IELTS language tests) when they are applying to become licensed if their degree was completed in another language. PEGNL business is conducted in English.

COMPETENCY BASED ASSESSMENT

In addition to this application, all those applying to be professional members with PEGNL are required to complete a full experience review using the Competency Based Assessment framework. This review acts as part of the determination for an applicant’s suitability for licensure. Your completed Competency Self-Assessment will need to be validated by references chosen on your behalf and then assessed by third-party professional volunteers supplied by PEGNL. You will require an Application-in-Process number from PEGNL in order to create a Competency Assessment account. Information on the Competency Based Assessment framework and on how to create your account will be provided once your application is submitted. If you are an MIT with PEGNL, you must use your PEGNL member number to create an account if you have not yet done so. More information can be found on our CBA website.

PERMIT TO PRACTICE REQUIREMENT

Section 12 of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, 2008 requires that anyone who proposes to offer or provide professional services to the public must hold a valid permit to provide those services. The “public” includes all natural and legal entities external to your employer.

If your employer provides your services to anyone outside your organization, either you or your employer also require a Permit to Practice in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Before submitting, please ensure your application includes the following:

NOTE: You must supply a copy of a government-issued photo identification (passport, driver’s license, permanent residency card, etc.). The ID must be in English or be accompanied by a certified translation.
NOTE: PEGNL has created a Competency Self-Assessment Submittal Checklist to assist applicants in reviewing their Competency Self-Assessment before they submit it for validation.

Please also ensure you have completed all sections of this form.
(1) If you are an MIT in good standing with PEGNL, please only include documents not already supplied to us (such as transcripts from educational programs completed after the date you became an MIT)
(2) Applicants need to arrange for their transcripts/diplomas to be sent to PEGNL directly from the educational institution(s).
(3) All those applying to become a P. Geo. who graduated from an educational institution outside of Newfoundland & Labrador will also need to provide copies of their bachelor program syllabi.

(1) The Application Fee is waived for applicants who are currently a MIT in good standing with PEGNL. For all other applicants, this fee is required and is non-refundable.
(2) Applicants can pay the annual fee at the time of application if they choose. If they do not, they will be required to pay the annual fee if and when their application for licensure is approved.
(3) Current PEGNL MITs pay a reduced amount in their first year of licensure which reflects the MIT annual fee they have already paid.
(4) Credit card information is not retained on file.
