PEGNL is looking for experienced professionals to help us review the experience of those applying for licensure by serving as Volunteer Assessors in the Competency Based Assessment (CBA) framework. While all areas of expertise are welcome, we are looking for additional assessors with experience in the following areas: mining engineering, process engineering, electrical/computer engineering, geology, and geophysics.
If you have been licensed for at least 5 years and are interested in learning more about becoming an assessor; please apply.


Engineers Canada accepting award nominations:
Each year, Engineers Canada recognizes engineers and engineering students for their exceptional work in the engineering community through their awards program. The various categories highlight important contributions in engineering, engineering education, community involvement, the advancement of women in engineering and significant accomplishments in engineering. Nominations for the 2023 Engineers Canada Awards program are now open until January 13, 2023.


Women of STAC Bursary Fund, 2023 Application Period now open.

Awarded each year to select women, the Bursary Fund, provides financial support to enable the pursuit of training, professional development, and/or academic programs for women in the telecommunications field


CGS Young Professional (YP) Committee has launched a new pilot mentorship program for 2023. The purpose of the program is to pair current young professional members with experienced individuals in the geotechnical community. This partnership can promote learning, networking, and faster invaluable relationships for geotechnical YPs.

Mentor Requirements: Canadian geotechnical professionals with 10 or more years of experience

Mentee Requirements: Canadian geotechnical professionals with less than 10 years of experience and are not currently enrolled in full time study

 

The pilot program for 2023 is limited to only 15 mentors and 15 mentees. The mentee application and mentor application closes on January 15, 2023.

The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) is inviting Codes users/stakeholders to take part in the first public review of proposed changes to the 2020 editions of the National Model Codes, including the NBC, NFC, NECB and NPC. The public review is running from Oct. 24 to Dec. 23, 2022.


Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is conducting a Canada-wide Building Energy Code Compliance Study to collect information about energy code compliance for buildings. Responses will help inform current level of compliance with energy requirements, barriers and opportunities to improve the code compliance process. NRCan encourages professionals who have experience within the last five years meeting or enforcing energy code, Part 3 to take 15 minutes to answer these important questions before Jan. 2nd.           Courses  

PEGNL members are being offered free access to an online course. The 10-hr Practical Geo-Communication course provides valuable communication tips and strategies for members of both professions. Log onto the member portal, then click Events in the blue bar to find more details and to register for the course.


Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia is offering a 1-hour course on EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion). This course is free to all engineers and geoscientists across Canada on the EGBC Knowledge Centre. Create a new account before completing the checkout process. Then take part in the course.


 

Climate Risk Institute has professional development training in climate change risk, resilience and adaptation for infrastructure practitioners and professionals. Infrastructure professionals can choose from a selection of courses, or pursue the Infrastructure Resilience Professional (IRP) credential by taking a series of six courses. Upcoming courses include Climate Change and Infrastructure Risk Assessment - the PIEVC Protocol, Climate Law for Infrastructure Practitioners, and Climate Smart Policy and Procurement. Management of Climate Risk, Applied Climate Science, Asset Management and Climate Resiliency - in Spring 2023.

Climate Risk Institute Courses are available now via partnership with Royal Roads Professional and Continuing Studies.


Project Management Essentials for Construction

The course is designed to give project managers and project team members working in the construction environment the essential tools they need to deliver successful projects. The course is Gold Seal accredited by the Canadian Construction Association and Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC). To learn more and register, click HERE. Policy Implementation and Evaluation Masterclass is designed for all those working in policy environments, notably focusing on the later stages of delivery and evaluation. Participants will improve their understanding of the policy cycle, project management techniques and evaluation methodologies, ability to communicate and influence the policy process, crucial for those working in governance and other key stakeholders. Learn more and register by Jan 20, 2023.
