***NEW*** Reminder: Call for Nominations - 2024 PEGNL Board of Directors
The PEGNL Board is responsible for building and shaping policy in relation to the regulation of the professions of engineering and geoscience. This year, we are seeking nominations for three positions on the Board, Chair-Elect (one) and Director (two). These three positions will serve three-year terms.
Nominations are open until March 14.


National Resources Canada has launched two requests for proposals (RFP) related to climate change adaptation in Canada:

Review and Analysis of Home Resiliency and Hazard Rating Tools.

By means of the RFP, Natural Resources Canada, through the Office of Energy Efficiency’s Homes and Communities Division, is seeking external services to conduct research and provide an analysis of some of these tools and accompanying guidance.

Flood Frequency Analysis (FFA) Manual for Hydrotechnical Practitioners in Canada

Environment and Climate Change Canada is seeking a contractor for the Flood Frequency Analysis Manual, part of the Flood Hazard Identification and Mapping Program. Their objective is to create and develop a reference manual for hydrotechnical practitioners in Canada to assist with preparing for future floods in Canada.

Applications for Engineers Canada’s 2024 scholarships are now open! Each year, Engineers Canada offers scholarships in three categories: undergraduate engineering students, engineers studying at the graduate level in engineering, and engineers studying at the graduate level in an area other than engineering. In total, Engineers Canada awards 14 scholarships totaling $92,000 to engineering students and professional engineers returning to university. The deadline for applications is March 8, 2024 and scholarship recipients will be announced in June. Click here for more information.


Call for volunteers. PEGNL’s Connections East group are looking for additional volunteers. The group formed by volunteer engineers and geoscientists, promote professional development, networking, and social opportunities for the license holders in their district. Volunteers are required to aid the existing opportunities being offered throughout 2024. Please email east@connectionsnl.ca to express interest in volunteering.


Leadership Opportunity: Engineers Canada announces search for a new Chief Executive Officer. For over 80 years, Engineers Canada, in concert with the nation’s 12 engineering regulators, has worked on behalf of the provincial and territorial associations that regulate engineering practice and license the country’s 300,000 members of the engineering profession. Targeting employers, it will feature keynote speakers and guest panelists who will share seminal research, best practices and challenges around making both the province and the workplace more diverse and inclusive. Building on the momentum of previous summits, it will offer perspectives for businesses and other stakeholders from which they can grow their efforts to recruit and retain talented workers through more inclusive practices and how to better support inclusivity in a diverse workplace. ***NEW*** Join Engineers Canada and the Climate Risk Institute on March 14 to learn about the Low-Carbon Training for Engineering Professionals course, a collaboration between Engineers Canada, the Climate Risk Institute, CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council, and Polytechnique Montréal. Kim Bouffard, Dan Dicaire, and Eileen Sowunmi will discuss how the course draws connections between social inequality including gender inequality, the climate crisis, and affordable housing, and the role of engineers in retrofitting existing buildings and designing new low-carbon buildings across Canada. Join Engineers Canada at the 2024 30 by 30 Conference: Turning Knowledge into Action for Gender Equity in Engineering. This year’s conference consists of a three- hour virtual session on April 24, as well as an in-person event on May 22 in Winnipeg, MB.
