***NEW*** National Engineering and Geoscience Month occurs March, which is Canada’s biggest celebration of the professions. Engineers Canada invites you to host your own event in 2026. Each year, the engineering and geoscience communities, including but not limited to educators, and professionals across Canada, host events, share projects, and highlight how the professions contribute to our community. The theme, "Engineers and Geoscientists open doors”, invites us all to discover how engineers and geoscientists open doors to new possibilities and new futures, and welcomes everyone to be part of these transformative professions. ***NEW*** February 6, 2026, the MUN Student Engineering Society is hosting its 18th annual Charity Ball. This year it is in support of the ALS Society & the Iris Kirby House. The ball will be held at the Bella Vista, for more information, please click here.
***NEW*** The University of Waterloo’s Climate Institute is hosting a National Forum “Designing Climate-Ready Education for the Next Generation of Professionals” from February 2nd to 5th, 2026, on Zoom. This virtual forum will explore what knowledge and skills students need most, and how to teach in ways that cultivate hope, agency, and purposeful learning.
Across four days, a series of events are being offered, which you can join as your schedule allows, all aimed at advancing shared efforts to integrate climate education in professional degree programs - including accounting, architecture, landscape architecture, planning and engineering. This forum is part of the Accelerating Climate Education for the Next Generation of Professionals (ACE) project and supported by Natural Resources Canada’s Climate Adaptation Program. NordSpace Atlantic Corporation's proposal submission deadline is today January 9, 2026, for its Request for Proposal (RFP) seeking qualified civil engineering consulting firms to provide professional services for the design of a 5.5‑kilometre Class B gravel forest standard access road serving the Atlantic Spaceport Complex’s (ASX)Space Launch Complex-01 (SLC-01) proposed to be developed at Sauker Head, near St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador. NordSpace has also released Addendum No. 1, which addresses consultants’ questions to the RFP and NordSpace’s responses. Further information is noted within the RFP cover letter and the request for proposal document. Reference to construction standards for resource access roads in Newfoundland and Labrador can be accessed on the Government website, or via the following link. The Google Earth KMZ file, referenced within the RFP will be provided upon requests made to pegnl@pegnl.ca.
Memorial University, Faculty of Medicine is recruiting volunteers to take part in Medical School Interviews for 2026. Without volunteer involvement and commitment, the Faculty would be unable to complete a vital component in the evaluation of medical school applications that is necessary to determine the next class of matriculants at Memorial University’s medical school. Interviews for medical school applicants will be taking place virtually on Saturday, January 17th and Sunday, January 18th, 2026 (volunteers select one day). Engineers Canada is accepting award nominations. Each year, Engineers Canada recognizes engineers and engineering students for their exceptional work in the engineering community through their awards program. The various categories highlight important contributions in engineering, engineering education, community involvement, the advancement of women in engineering and significant accomplishments in engineering. Nominations for the 2026 Engineers Canada Awards program is now open until January 16, 2026. For more information click here.

***NEW*** Climate Risk Institute offers training and professional development courses that will be of interest for engineers involved in the planning, procurement, design, operation, maintenance, management or regulation of infrastructure and who need to consider climate risk, resilience and the changing climate in carrying out these activities.
This winter (starting January 26), extend your learning on topics including infrastructure climate risks, the globally-recognized PIEVC risk assessment protocol, risk management and communication, and climate law. For course details and to register, please see CRI's courses.

Geoscientists Canada has renewed and expanded its collaboration with Geologize for another two years (2026–2028), continuing to provide free access for all licensed and registered members, to Geologize’s critically acclaimed online training. This includes continued access to Practical Geocommunication, which has already helped over 4,000 P.Geo.s across Canada enhance how they communicate the value and importance of their work to the public, industry, and policymakers. It also includes the brand-new Mining Communication course, having a mining focus but designed to help geoscientists in all disciplines develop stronger, clearer, and more impactful messages about our profession’s role in our modern society. On January 12, 2025, learn about the Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund (AICLF). This ISANS-led initiative can help immigrants with permanent resident status or Canadian citizenship obtain training and certification in their chosen fields or related fields in their new home provinces. Register for the event here, for the one-hour webinar at 2:30pm. Registration deadline is 5:30pm January 9th.
